RANJI DEVADASON - RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Ranji Devadason is a research associate at the Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship at the University of Bristol. She is currently working on a European Commission funded project 'Multicultural Democracy and Social Capital in Europe' (Local Multidem). This study focuses on ethnic minorities' participation in networks, organisations and public life in London and is carried out in collaboration with five European partners to explore the position of minorities in contrasting discursive and political contexts. In December 2006 she completed an ESRC-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Sociology, Bristol. Her research interests centre on the relationship between place, social structures and everyday life. Her previous research focused upon young adults' employment in urban labour markets; her PhD was a cross-national study of young adult working lives in two European cities, Bristol and Gothenburg (Department of Sociology, Bristol; 2002-2005). Prior to this she worked on the ESRC-funded 'Winners' and 'Losers' project at Bristol (2000-2002; ESRC No. R000238215).
