European integration is becoming an increasingly contentious political issue across member states and candidate countries. The sessions in this seminar series look at how contention over Europe manifests itself as domestic politics and national public spheres become increasingly Europeanised.

EurPolCom Workshop Seminar Series 2002

The EurPolCom research team hosted a number of workshops in early 2002 that focused on the dynamics of the public sphere, political communications and political mobilisation. These workshop sessions consisted of internal discussion seminars, with the schedule as follows:

Thu 31 Jan 2002, 3pm -- Internal seminar: discussion of perspectives advanced by Tarrow et al in 'Contentious Europeans: Protest and Politics in an Emerging Polity' (2001)

Wed 12 Feb 2002, 3pm -- Internal seminar: discussion of European Public Sphere and the Media, using texts by P. Schlesinger and H. Semetko.

Thu 7 Mar 2002, 3pm -- Internal seminar: discussion of perspectives on international & European civil society advanced by T.Risse/K.Sikkink and A.Warleigh.

Autumn 2002 sees a new seminar series running, provisionally based around the theme of 'Contesting Europe'. This will combine talks from external speakers with papers from researchers at EurPolCom. Details will be available on this page from late summer 2002.
